Shining a light on South Florida, one story at a time.

We’re a scrappy, independent newsroom that lives in the communities we cover, so you can trust that every story is reported with precision, context, and respect for the people who make South Florida home.

The South Florida Standard was founded in the summer of 2025 inside a humble coworking space in downtown Miami. A few journalists, tired of watching local newsrooms shrink and stories go untold, decided to do something about it.

We started with one goal: bring independent journalism back to a region that desperately needs it.

South Florida is booming, with new money, new development, new power structures, but the public conversation hasn’t kept up. It is our goal to change that.

From investigating local government and development deals to highlighting the culture and people that make this region unique, the South Florida Standard is building a newsroom for a new era: independent, relentless, and unmistakably South Florida.
