A new pop-up bar will open Friday night in the former Gramps location at 176 NW 24th St. in Wynwood, according to the venue’s operators.

The temporary establishment, called Bar at Gramps, will be managed by Pres Rodriguez and Raul Sanchez, who previously operated a dive bar known as Bar or Bar Black from 2010 to 2011. That earlier venue featured local bands including Jacuzzy Boys on its small stage.

“We’re bringing back the same vibe and aesthetics we had at Bar,” Rodriguez said in a conference call with his business partner. “No fancy cocktails. Nothing on tap. We’re stripping it down to a dive bar that features art by local artists and is open Thursday through Saturday night.”

The pop-up will operate for at least one month, though Rodriguez and Sanchez indicated it could extend to two months or longer if successful. Friday’s opening night will run from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., with the possibility of adding earlier happy hour service in the future.

Bar at Gramps will initially use only the front bar and patio space of the former Gramps location. The operators hope to eventually utilize the back theater area known as Shirley’s, which is currently being used for storage.

The space will look different from the original Gramps venue, according to Rodriguez. The tables featuring collages and video games have been removed. “We’ll have it as we did at the bar, where our interior seating was picnic benches. We’ll also bring in a pool table,” Sanchez said.

Despite the potentially short run, the operators plan to fully furnish the space. This approach mirrors their previous venue’s strategy of completely redecorating every two months. “We’d close down at 5 am and just turn it into a completely different space. People would come back a few days later and ask if it was a different bar,” Rodriguez said.

The musical programming will reflect the original Bar’s 2010-era aesthetic. “We were known for an eclectic mix of people playing hip-hop, electro, and indie rock. Maybe we’ll bring back dubstep like we had in 2010,” Rodriguez said. The venue plans to feature both local musicians and out-of-town acts.

Rodriguez specifically mentioned plans for themed nights that harken back to the early 2010s music scene. “We definitely want an indie sleaze night,” he said, referring to the musical and cultural movement that peaked around that time.

The venue will showcase art by local artists, continuing the community-focused approach of both the original Bar and Gramps locations. The operators emphasized their commitment to supporting the local creative scene that made both previous venues popular gathering spots.

In keeping with the throwback theme, Bar at Gramps will not maintain its own website or Instagram account. Instead, updates will be shared through the former Gramps Instagram account @Grampswynwood, according to Sanchez.

The pop-up represents a fusion of two beloved Miami venues that developed devoted followings during their respective runs. Gramps operated as a popular dive bar and music venue in Wynwood before closing, while Bar served as a hub for the local music scene during the early 2010s.

Bar at Gramps will operate Thursday through Saturday nights, offering Wynwood visitors a stripped-down bar experience focused on community, local art, and music that defined Miami’s alternative scene over a decade ago.
