Renaissance Festival returns to Quiet Waters Park
The 34th annual Florida Renaissance Festival opened at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, featuring jousting, artisan markets, and medieval entertainment through March 17.
The festival, which transforms the 430-acre park into a medieval village complete with jousting tournaments and artisan markets, draws thousands of visitors each year from across South Florida. Families from as far south as Homestead and as far north as Palm Beach County make the annual pilgrimage to experience life as it was in the 16th century.
“It’s become a tradition for so many families here in South Florida,” said festival director Sarah Mitchell. “We see the same faces year after year, and now we’re seeing their children and grandchildren coming dressed in costume.”
The festival features more than 100 artisans selling handcrafted goods, from leather armor to blown glass goblets. Multiple stages host continuous entertainment including comedy shows, musical performances, and demonstrations of medieval combat techniques.
This year’s event runs through March 17 on weekends and Presidents Day, with gates opening at 10 a.m. and closing at sunset. The festival grounds include eight themed villages, each representing different aspects of Renaissance life, from a royal court to a pirate’s den.
Ticket prices range from $25 for adults to $15 for children, with season passes available for frequent visitors. Parking at Quiet Waters Park is included with admission.
The festival has grown significantly since its debut in 1991, when it attracted fewer than 5,000 visitors over its entire run. Last year, organizers estimated more than 200,000 people attended across all weekends.
“The Renaissance Festival has become one of our signature events,” said Deerfield Beach Mayor Bill Ganz. “It brings visitors from all over the region and really showcases what makes our community special.”
Food vendors offer both traditional Renaissance fare like turkey legs and mead alongside modern festival favorites. The event also features interactive experiences including archery lessons, pony rides, and opportunities to meet costumed characters.
